Welcome to the world of fitness!

Most of the people who want to be fit but are too busy with their day-to-day lives do not know where to start with fitness. My blog is to help you understand how to be fit without spending too much time about it. Let’s start of with 2 of the most important questions that all beginners have, “Why Fitness?” and “Where to start?”, Let’s talk about that!

Why fitness?

Fitness is basically maintaining a healthy body as well as a healthy state of mind. Most people attribute fitness just to the physical aspect but that’s not exactly right, it also helps to maintain a balanced and calm mind. Including exercise in your daily routine increases the flow of blood to the brain which leads to a healthy brain function. In fact, many studies suggest that everyday physical activity improves you memory and reduce stress, anxiety and other illnesses.

Apart from the advantages mentioned above, personally, the answer for the question “Why fitness?” is a bit different for me. Our body helps us in our day-to-day life in performing various activities, so, I feel like we owe something in return as a ‘Thank You’. For me, taking care of my body is a way of showing gratitude for everything my body helps me do. It is not necessary that everyone needs to feel this way, the rationale for sharing my own view on this is to encourage people to find their own reason to why they want to be fit. As human beings, having a reason give us a sense of justification and motivation to do things.

Where to Start?

Often, there is a misconception with the word ‘fitness’, as people relate it to a 2 hour workout everyday in the gym and having giant pecs, big biceps and six pack abs. In the real world, that is well known as ‘body building’ which is just a part of the fitness world. Being fit does not mean you need to have a ripped body with your veins popping out, a fit person may be lean or might have a little belly.

In reality, gym is not the only place where you have to go to be fit, you can start getting fit right in your own house by doing 20 reps x 5 sets of Squats, 20 reps x 5 sets of push ups and a 15-20 min jump rope workout . There are a ton of activities which you can do to get yourself in shape and be healthy. Most well known activities are running, cycling and playing different kinds of sports.

My journey of fitness started in my own bedroom, I used to do 100 push-ups and 100 squats in the morning and finish off the day with a 20-30 min of running in the evening. The best part was, I did not have spend a single penny and it only took me an hour in the whole day.

Keeping yourself motivated is the key, to keep yourself motivated, try to set you goals straight and try to get there. Your goal might be anything, it could be losing weight down to a specific number of lbs or running 2 miles without a break or jump rope 500 times non-stop, whatever it is, no goal is silly, what’s silly is ‘having no goal’. Once you reach your target, redefine your goals with the new targets.
